What's new at Torq in 2023?

A good part of the range is renewed for this new season.

As for longboard boards, the big news is the arrival of a new collection with 2 models developed in collaboration with Delpero. Both of these longboard boards will be available in the premium ACT and TEC construction.

  • The Delpero Pro 9'1 x 22 1/4” x 2 3/4” with a round pin tail
  • The Delpero classic 9'2 x 23” x 3 1/8” with a square tail: it's the perfect board to discover the joys of longboarding

Two new boards are coming, available in TEC and TEC HD.

The M2.0, a mini funboard, is available in 4 shapes. It's the perfect board for those looking for a board with volume , easy to paddle and surf. It will allow you to progress quickly and surf a wide range of conditions. On the program: a moderate rocker, a round tail and a thruster configuration for the new Torq M2.0

  • 7'2 x 21 1/2” x 2 7/8” - 50.6ltr

Why are Torq boards so popular?

If Torq boards have been popular for several years now, it's not for nothing.

Surfboards are both accessible to a large number of people and efficient. If you come out of a surf course and you master the take-off, there are easy shapes that will allow you to progress very quickly , such as Mod fun and Mod fish.

Torq boards are renowned for their strength, especially in comparison to a polyester resin surfboard. In the event of an impact, they are also very easy to repair with a simple kit. Another asset not to be overlooked is their price.

If you already have a foam surfboard and are considering upgrading to one that is both more maneuverable and lighter , then the Torq range is for you.

Where are Torq surfboards made?

Torq surfboards are made in Asia and more precisely in Taiwan . If you are wondering why they are not made in France, the answer is simple: there is currently no factory with the technology to make Torq boards . Torq surfboards have built their reputation around their durability and performance .

Taiwan Playmaker Surfboard Factory

If we look in detail at the manufacturing process of Torq surfboards , we are closer to a snowboard than to a surfboard.

If one is interested in the analysis of the life cycle of a surfboard, one must take into account its lifespan and the choice of materials. Transport represents only a small part of the carbon footprint, it is often less than 5%. It is the impact of the materials and the mode of energy production that must be taken into account as a priority. So before changing boards, look at refurbished boards and the second-hand market.

An eco-contribution in the world of surfing

In France, from January 1, 2022 the EPR is implemented. That is to say that we collect a contribution / tax, for the financing of the surfboard recycling sector. The scale is flexible, depending on the year.

Basically for a surfboard, we are between 1 and 2.5 euros per board put on the market.

If, in principle, the contribution is a good idea, we hope that the processing and collection of old surfboards will be set up . Because if it's to bury or burn a surfboard, then you might as well give it another life or give it away. An old plank can make a good garden table 😉

The TET range

TET technology represents a revolution in epoxy surfboards , built using the latest EPS/Epoxy materials.

TET Torq technology combines a lightweight EPS core with bi-axial fiberglass fabric, epoxy resin and a special finish. Torq's high-tech composites are built in the most advanced moulds, precision cut with CNC tooling, creating the most perfect reproduction in every board.

The unique combination of advanced, high-tech materials creates a performance board, offering lightness and responsive flex , but also extraordinary durability and resistance . This technology ensures that your new Torq board will bring you maximum pleasure.

At the price level of Torq boards in 2023

For this new season , there is one thing that no one escapes, it is the rise in prices in the world of sporting goods , including for surfing. Several factors come into play, such as the € / $ exchange rate . The fall of the euro leads to an automatic rise in prices. Transport costs are still high and even if the price of containers is falling, the price of transport is soaring in Europe between logistics centers.

As for Torq surfboards , we are witnessing an increase in board prices for the 2023 season. It must also be said that prices have been stable for several years.

Today, to send you a surfboard at home, you have to count around fifty euros, whereas we still paid around thirty before the covid. As an independent company, we are also faced with rising costs. We always try to absorb them to make the material accessible, but in some cases we don't have enough leeway.
